Chakras at the Wall

As without, So Within. An off the wall Chakra Workshop

Suitable for ALL Levels…

Sunday June 10th, 2-4pm
cost: $30 in advance $35 day of the event.

Doing asanas at the wall increases our proprioception–an internal awareness of where our bodies are in space.

Doing asanas with an internal awareness of our mental and emotional barriers helps us grow beyond those walls.

This workshop uses our experience of posture and employs the 5 kosha model of the human energy system to explore and release imbalances in our chakras.

We will learn how our walls support us, dettermine what and to whom we are aligned and offer the needed resistance to open up bodies, minds and hearts.

Nany McCaochan, MA. E-RYT 500, has been teaching yoga since 1995. She brings a serious kind oof playfulness intto her sessions. Committed to the understanding that the most profound learning takes place in a congenial and relaxed atmosphere. Nancy teaches from the pleasure of practice, helping her students open to their inherent comfort, strength and bliss. She is the author of Yoga at the Wall, (2008) and conducts workshops throughout the Metro-Detroit area.

Mindful Meditation With Gisele Harrison MSW, RSW

Mindful Meditation With Gisele Harrison MSW, RSW

Throughout our lives the heart-mind (citta) accumulates memories.  These memories are fodder for the stories the mind can spin.  On a whim our “monkey mind” can lead us to believe that we are worthy or unworthy, lovable or unlovable.   The purpose of yoga is to quiet the heart-mind so that we can connect with the divine light of awareness (purusa) that resides within us.

The physical practice of yoga (asana) is only a partial view of an eight limbed process toward liberation within the heart-mind.  This Mindful Meditation class will lead yogis through the last three limbs of yoga namely:  choosing a focus (Dharana), continuous meditation/concentration (Dhyana), and complete attention/integration (Samadhi).

Supplies needed:  The studio does have chairs, bolsters and blankets available free of charge for students, however it is recommended that meditators invest in a Zabuton mat, and a Zafu Cushion or Seiza Bench.  Zafu cushions are available at ESY for purchase or online at:   www.snowlioncanada.com or www.dharma.net/monstore

Gisèle Harrison, MSW, RSW is a social worker in private practice that specializes in helping people to work through painful memories; anxiety; depression; and stress.  She came to the practice of yoga and meditation in an effort to know freedom from monkey-mind and in the process provide a valuable practice to her clients who were seeking the same thing.  Gisèle has studied meditation with Michael Stone, Molly Swan, Norman Feldman, Jon Kabat-Zinn and Saki Santorelli.  Gisèle also takes her practice off the mat and into the community through her feminist social justice work which includes regular guest columns in the Windsor Star addressing various forms of oppression.

Yin Yoga Workshop

Learn the Art of Yin Yoga.

Great for students wanting to delve deeper into the Yin practice. A must for teachers to learn how to teach Yin Yoga effectively. Yin Yoga has the same goals and objectives as any other school of yoga; however, it directs the stimulation normally created in the asana portion of the practice deeper than the superficial or muscular tissues (which we are calling the yang tissues).

Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice.

Sunday  January 29th 1-3pm
$25 in advance and $30 day of the event
